Major Point Source Emissions Inventory Assistance

Facilities with air operating permits (or major point sources) provide information about their air emissions to state and local governments. This data is used to ensure these facilities are complying with their air operating permits and to analyze the impacts of the facility’s emissions on air quality. Ecology collects this data using the Washington Emissions Inventory Reporting System. Data from major point sources is collected in the following areas:

  • Adams, Asotin, Benton, Chelan, Columbia, Douglas, Ferry, Franklin, Garfield, Grant, Island, Kittitas, Klickitat, Lincoln, Okanogan, Pend Oreille, San Juan, Skagit, Spokane, Stevens, Walla Walla, Whatcom, Whitman, and Yakima Counties
  • Pulp mills and aluminum smelters
  • Hanford

Facilities outside the counties listed above should contact a local clean air agency for emissions inventory reporting requirements.

Washington Emissions Inventory Reporting System (WEIRS)

The Washington Emissions Inventory Reporting System (WEIRS) keeps track of information that facilities with air operating permits are required to report annually. There are two versions of WEIRS: the training version and the production version. The training version of WEIRS allows facilities to practice with the system without affecting data that will be reported to Ecology. The production version of WEIRS allows facilities to update their data for annual reporting. NOTE: The database name was previously called WEIRD.
