Facility Description: |
General Chemical LLC produces sulfuric acid and elemental sulfur from refinery raw materials. Unit operations at the facility include three sulfuric acid trains, two sulfur dioxide abatement units and one Claus sulfur recovery unit (SRU) with Shell Claus off-gas treatment (SCOT). General Chemical is required to have an air operating permit (AOP) because the facility has a potential to emit more than 100 tons of sulfur dioxide per year. The draft AOP is going out for public comment a second time because of a change to an underlying minor new source review permit during the first comment period. |
