ADVISORY FOR SMOKE IN NORTHERN CHELAN, NORTHERN DOUGLAS AND SOUTHERN OKANOGAN COUNTIES
The Chelan-Douglas Health District, in co-operation with the Washington State Department of Ecology and the Wenatchee District Office of the UPS. Forest Service is issuing a Health Advisory due to smoke from a wildfire in the Wenatchee National Forest.
According to the latest available meteorological reports and fire updates, smoke from the North 25 fire near 25 Mile Creek and Lake Chelan, is expected to spread to the following communities: Chelan, Manson, Chelan Falls, Entiat, Brewster and Pateros.
Air Quality monitoring equipment is being installed by the Department of Ecology to provide continuos monitoring for determination of the air quality in the effected areas. As reports are received, the District may issue Health Advisories based on the severity of conditions.
INFORMATION FOR INDIVIDUALS EFFECTED BY ADVERSE AIR QUALITY
1. Avoid unnecessary exposure.
a. Keep doors and windows closed.
b. Discourage children from playing outdoors.
c. Avoid activities that require exertion outdoors, if possible.
d. Visit family / friends out of the area, if possible.
2. For individuals with respiratory and cardiac problems, continue with
routine medication.
a. Stay indoors as much as possible.
b. Consult with your private doctor if you experience additional problems.
3. If you must work outdoors, a soft surgical mask or dust mask will reduce the amount of large particles you may breathe.
a. If unavailable, a folded and moistened kerchief can serve as an
alternative.
b. Eye drops may soothe irritated eyes.
