BEACH Program signs

Green beach sign
indicating that this beach's water quality is monitored.

Bacteria levels are considered acceptable according to EPA recommendations. It is important to remember that when swimming in untreated waters, there is always the possibility of coming in contact with various types of bacteria including the kind that can make you sick. Remember to wash your hands and body after swimming!

Yellow sign says Caution, no swimming or wading because of water quality concerns.

Bacteria levels exceed EPA recommendations. Children, elderly, and those in ill health are advised not to swim. Cautions (sometimes called Advisories) are used to let the public know that sample results show increased levels of bacteria.

Caution

Red sign says this beach has been closed because the water is contaminated.   The local heath department has closed the beach for swimming. This posting is typically used for known sewer spills or when the Public Health Officer has determined a "Closure" provides the best protection for beach users.
