SUMMARY OF VOLUNTEER SURVEY There was no survey response for 1996. FIELD OBSERVATIONS OF ECOLOGY STAFF Myriophyllum spicatum and Elodea canadensis observed at the boat launch. Few zooplankton in springtime epilimnion samples but a moderate amount of copepods in the hypolimnion samples. Summertime observations included a thick mat of algae covering the cliff face, lots of small copepods and dap. at 15 meters.
TROPHIC STATUS Estimated Trophic State: Oligo-mesotrophic Mean Trophic State Index (Secchi): 35 (Oligotrophic) Mean Trophic State Index (Total Phosphorus): 36 (Oligotrophic) Mean Trophic State Index (Chlorophyll a): 41 (Oligo-mesotrophic)
SUMMARY AND EXPLANATION OF TROPHIC STATE ASSESSMENT Deep Lake is classified as oligo-mesotrophic. Secchi and Phosphorus TSIs indicate an oligotrophic lake but field observations reveal much algae in the lake. Chlorophyll TSI is also consistent with the field observations, therefore, a oligo-mesotrophic assessment is justified.
COMMENTS FROM 96/06/25 AQUATIC PLANT SURVEY Most of lake with no aquatic plant habitat. Plants nearly all at the boat launch area, rocky bottom and steep sides. Appears to be a popular recreational area. Circumnavigated littoral area.
AQUATIC PLANT LIST (This list may be from multiple years and sources.)Chara sp. (muskwort) Elodea canadensis (common elodea) Myriophyllum sibiricum (northern watermilfoil) Scirpus sp. (bulrush) Zannichellia palustris (horned pondweed) unknown plant (unknown)
