Flowing Lake is located six miles north of Monroe, and 800 feet west of Strom Lake. It is fed by Storm Lake and drains to Panther Lake and ultimately to the Pilchuk River. It is cakkked Rowing Lake on historical maps. The inflow is intermittent.

SUMMARY OF VOLUNTEER SURVEY There was no survey response for 1996. FIELD OBSERVATIONS OF ECOLOGY STAFF Macrophytes were sparce. Small populations of Potamogeton praelongus, Elodea canadensis, Iris pseudacorus, Spiraea douglasii and Nuphar lutea were observed. 80% of the waterfront was developed, only 20% natural vegetation. The water was very clear in the spring. Detergent suds present during fall sampling. Bald eagle spotted in the spring, about 20 Cladoceran in chlorophyll filter.
TROPHIC STATUS Estimated Trophic State: Oligo-mesotrophic Mean Trophic State Index (Secchi): 38N* (Oligo-mesotrophic) Mean Trophic State Index (Total Phosphorus): 39 (Oligo-mesotrophic) Mean Trophic State Index (Chlorophyll a): 45 (Mesotrophic) *The calculated TSI is an estimate. The Secchi disk hit bottom (B), entered the weeds (W), or there were too few valid readings (N), or the calculation was based on qualified data (J), or TSIP was based on spring data (S).
SUMMARY AND EXPLANATION OF TROPHIC STATE ASSESSMENT Flowing Lake is classified as oligo-mesotrophic. There was very little macrophyte growth to support a more eutrophic classification.
COMMENTS FROM 93/05/26 AQUATIC PLANT SURVEY Aquatic plants were surveyed at the public access and at one to three transects around the lake. A thorough survey was not made and the list below may be incomplete.
AQUATIC PLANT LIST (This list may be from multiple years and sources.) Elodea canadensis (common elodea) Iris pseudacorus (yellow flag) Nuphar lutea (yellow water-lily) Nymphaea odorata (fragrant waterlily) Typha latifolia (common cat-tail)
