SUMMARY OF VOLUNTEER SURVEY There was no survey response for 1996. FIELD OBSERVATIONS OF ECOLOGY STAFF The spring field observations included populations of Aphanizonmenon, attached green algae, Typha lattifolia, Nuphar lutea, Nymphaea odorata, Potamogeton crispus, and about 50 Clodoceran in a 1000ml sample. Other macrophytes also present. Juvenile bald eagle, a blue heron and 11 cormorants observed. Only 9 houses along shoreline, most of the rest is natural. A dairy operation observed near shoreline.
TROPHIC STATUS Estimated Trophic State: Eutrophic Mean Trophic State Index (Secchi): 48N* (Meso-eutrophic) Mean Trophic State Index (Total Phosphorus): 69 (Eutrophic) Mean Trophic State Index (Chlorophyll a): 60 (Eutrophic) *The calculated TSI is an estimate. The Secchi disk hit bottom (B), entered the weeds (W), or there were too few valid readings (N), or the calculation was based on qualified data (J), or TSIP was based on spring data (S).
SUMMARY AND EXPLANATION OF TROPHIC STATE ASSESSMENT Harts Lake is classified as eutrophic. The lake is very nutrient rich with lots of vegetation all along the shoreline.
COMMENTS FROM 96/07/03 AQUATIC PLANT SURVEY cloudy/sunny, breeze. water very green with planktonic algae and stained brown. Popular fishing area. Industrial dairy within view. Only found M. spicatum in 2 locations, though visibility very poor, so probably missed some among the lilies. Maximum depth of plant growth: 2.0M.
