Department of Ecology staff Callie Meredith and Glenn Merritt collecting a sediment core sample at Lake Ozette in Clallam County. A one-centimeter surface layer and a one-centimeter layer near the bottom of the core will be analyzed for diatom frustules—the “shell” of a type of algae—to estimate historical water quality changes in the lake.
