Contractors cannot use their own RCRA Site ID Number to manifest or transport regulated dangerous waste from the job site. The generator's (job site's) RCRA Site ID Number and a dangerous waste transporter must be used if the waste is regulated. However, a contractor can haul small quantity generator waste to one of the facilities approved by the local Moderate Risk Waste Plan.
The US Department of Transportation (USDOT) regulates hazardous and non-hazardous materials in all modes of transportation (highway, air, water, rail). The Department of Transportation is concerned with loading, movement and transport, not with storage before transport. Specific waste containers, labels, marking, and vehicle placards are required for specific wastes. Employees who work with the transportation of hazardous materials must be trained.
