Waste Management in 2001

1,300 businesses in Washington generated enough hazardous waste to be regulated by Ecology in 2001.

Total hazardous waste generated = 219,000 tons.
Used oil sent to processors = 12 million gallons.

Hazardous waste include discarded materials that are:
(examples shown in parentheses)

Flammable (spent solvent)
Corrosive (sulfuric acid)
Reactive (flares)
Toxic or (lead)
Persistent (PCBs)

Used oil may be flammable and/or toxic.
