Better Brakes Tracking Progress

Before an automobile brake may be sold in Washington, the manufacturer must certify that the brake meets the requirements of the Better Brakes Law. Each quarter Ecoloy receives updated certification documents from brake manufacturers, including information on the concentrations of copper, nickel, zinc, and antimony in brake friction materials. We use this information to evaluate compliance and track the progress industry is making towards reducing the use of copper in brake pads. Ecology also tracks the concentrations of zinc, nickel, and antimony in brake friction materials because these metals are also harmful to the environment.
