Rules for Small Quantity Generators

Small Quantity Generators (SQGs) are businesses that generate below 220 pounds of Dangerous Waste and 2.2 pounds of Acutely Hazardous Waste or WT01 toxic waste per month.

SQGs have no time limit on accumulating Dangerous Waste. SQGs can transport their own waste. The Dangerous Waste Regulations require no records to be kept. However, records that prove SQG status may be necessary, if a business is inspected. In addition ,  businesses with a RCRA Site ID# are required to report their dangerous waste annually.

All generators must manage their waste in a way that does not pose a threat to human health or the environment. Also, even those SQG's that are not regulated under the Dangerous Waste Regulations are often regulated by local jurisdictions, such as counties or health districts.

Washington State Local Health Departments/Districts often assist small businesses in their jurisdictions and may enforce local environmental health regulations.
