What is Dangerous Waste (DW) or Extremely Hazardous Waste (EHW) designation?

Waste codes resulting from designation fall into one of two categories:

• DW, or
• EHW

DW and EHW are terms used only in Washington State. DW or EHW designation, together with waste amounts, determine a site's generator status and waste management options.

“WP01”, “WP03” and “WT01” are the only dangerous waste codes that can be designated as EHW. If none of these codes apply to your waste, then the waste has a designation code of DW. Refer to WAC 173-303, Sections, -100, and -104 for guidance.
