How to Identify Management Method Codes

Management Method Codes are codes developed by EPA to describe the hazardous waste management system used to treat or dispose of a hazardous waste. The 28 specific codes are organized into four broad categories:

• Reclamation and Recovery
• Destruction or Treatment Prior to Disposal at Another Site
• Disposal
• Storage/Transfer Off Site

Examples of specific Management Method Codes include:

• H020 - solvents recovery
• H040 - incineration, thermal destruction other than as a fuel
• H132 - landfill or surface impoundment that will be closed as a landfill

Waste management is the systemic control of the collection, source separation, storage, transportation, processing, treatment, recovery, or disposal of hazardous waste.
