Which waste codes are Washington State only? What is EHW?

Washington has some waste codes that are not covered in the federal definition of hazardous waste. These “state-only” waste codes start with the letter W, such as WT for toxic or WP for persistence (for example, WP01).

Learn more about identifying waste codes (designation) and generator status.

Enter Washington State only waste codes on the annual report forms in box:

  • 11b of the Site ID Form,
  • A-4 on the Generation Management (GM) Form, or
  • 4 on the Waste Received (WR) Form.

What is Extremely Hazardous Waste (EHW)?

In the Annual Report, waste codes fall into two categories:

  • Dangerous waste (DW)
  • Extremely hazardous waste (EHW)
