Latest News ...
2/21/13 - Ecology received more
than 4,000 comments on the draft Hanford Dangerous Waste Permit
during the comment period held from May 1 to October 22, 2012.
This includes about 1,800 comments from the public and 3,000
from the U.S. Department of Energy.
Because information and arguments brought up during the first
comment period raised substantial new questions, Ecology will
reopen the comment period for the permit. We do not have firm
date set for this second round of public comments, but we expect
about a two-year effort to:
- Review and evaluate each of the thousands of
comments we received.
- Revise the permit based on significant
information and issues that were raised.
- Reissue the permit with the revisions
and responses to the original comments received.
- Reopen the comment period for the sections
we changed. Address the next round of public
- Issue the final permit.
We are updating our
Frequently Asked Questions about the permit to address the
changes. Send your questions to
call 800-321-2008, and we will answer them in the revised FAQ.
Ecology also plans to send periodic updates on our progress
during the permit revision process. The updates will be posted
Hanford-Info email list as well as Ecology’s website and our
Education & Outreach Facebook page.
