Providing public involvement opportunities is one of the cornerstones of Ecology’s success in regulating cleanup efforts at Hanford. Public input directs us toward the issues our citizens feel are the most important, which in turn enables us to more effectively enforce the milestones outlined in the Tri-Party Agreement.
Public involvement is required by law on major decisions. This is carried out by holding public comment periods and hearings during which comments from interested members of the public are recorded, considered by the cleanup agencies, and responded to in writing. Find out how you can get involved in the decisions that affect you by visiting our public comment periods page.
Public Education & Outreach Activities
Public education and outreach activities include public meetings and events, focus groups, workshops, open houses, and meetings with local governments and civic organizations. Public outreach activities promote public awareness, education, and involvement with Hanford Site cleanup and compliance decisions.
