Under the
Shoreline Management Act
all Washington's 39 counties
and more than 200 cities with "shorelines
of the state" administer
Shoreline Master Programs (SMPs). The SMP is essentially a shoreline comprehensive plan
and zoning ordinance with a distinct environmental orientation applicable to
shoreline areas and customized to local circumstances. Some local governments
maintain "stand alone" SMPs, while other SMPs are integrated into Growth
Management Act plans and ordinances.
Use the links above for information about local SMPs and
planning efforts.
