Pre-application meeting

Many jurisdictions hold a pre-application meeting between the staff and applicant, and often, with other agencies with jurisdiction over the proposed development. This meeting provides an opportunity for an informal exchange of information about the proposal and for agency staff to request specific application information or suggest modifications or mitigating measures for the proposal.

Some suggested agenda items:

Local planning staff explain the process that the application will undergo with expected timelines
Identify the applicable policies and regulations
Identify the type and extent of information that is necessary to properly and expeditiously process the application.
Applicant describe preliminary proposal
Discussion of modifications or mitigating measures that will improve the chance that the application will move smoothly through the process.
