Local Shoreline Programs

Over 260 cities and counties have a Shoreline Master Program to regulate development in aquatic areas and 200 feet upland of those areas. Most shoreline programs will be updated by 2015. The updates must comply with the state Shoreline Management Act and guidelines.

Many updated shoreline programs will call for evaluation of new bulkheads and bulkhead maintenance, ensuring that these projects occur only when needed, don’t harm neighboring properties, and sustain vital shoreline habitat for fish and other species.
