La Nina Winter, 1998 -1999
The winter of 1998-1999 brought La Nina. The three month period between November and January were the wettest on record. As a result, groundwater levels were high and the region witnessed the reactivation of numerous large deep-seated landslides. These were generally slow-moving and occurred within existing landslide complexes that had been previously identified. |
