Burien Shoreline Master Program: Limited Amendment

On June 9, 2016, the Department of Ecology approved The City of Burien Shoreline Master Program (SMP) Limited Amendment. Per RCW 90.58.090, the effective date of Burien’s shoreline program is June 23, 2016, 14 days after Ecology provided notice to the city that their shoreline amendment was approved.

Burien’s shoreline consists of Puget Sound and Lake Burien. The city’s Puget Sound shoreline is mainly single family residential and Seahurst Park. This shoreline master program amendment focuses on incorporating the updated critical areas regulations (BMC 19.40) into the shoreline master program.

On April 27, 2016 The Washington Department of Ecology provided the City of Burien with required and recommended changes to the proposed limited amendment to its Shoreline Master Program. The changes are based on Ecology’s review of whether or not the proposed update complies with state laws and rules.

A public comment period was held from December 11, 2015 to January 11, 2016. Ecology used mail and email to notify interested parties of the public comment period and also issued a news release. Ecology received no public comments.
