Ferry County and the City of Republic's Shoreline Master Program: Comprehensive Update

Public Comment Requested (Extended*) - July 5, 2016 to August 25, 2016 at 5:00 p.m.

*Ecology recently learned that the Environment Designation Maps were inadvertently missing from the documents linked below.  The maps have now been added to the page, and Ecology is extending the comment deadline to August 25, 2016 to allow for a meaningful public review.

The Washington Department of Ecology seeks public comment on the City of Republic and Ferry County’s proposed update to its Shoreline Master Program.

The City of Republic and Ferry County (Coalition) jointly prepared the Comprehensive SMP update to better coordinate shoreline management. More than fifty-two thousand acres of shoreline area will be subject to the updated SMP in Ferry County, including areas along the Columbia, Sanpoil, and Kettle Rivers, Boulder, Sherman, and Granite Creeks, and many lakes including the popular Curlew Lake and remote Swan Lake.

Ecology will compare the Coalition’s proposed program to the requirements of the Shoreline Management Act and the Shoreline Master Program Guidelines. Based on the comparison, Ecology will decide whether to:

  • Approve the program as is or with recommended changes, or
  • Send the proposed program back to the Coalition with required changes to meet statutory and rule requirements. Recommended changes may also be included with the required changes.
