Port Orchard Shoreline Master Program: Limited Amendment

Public Comment Requested - January 3, 2017 to February 2, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.

The Washington Department of Ecology seeks public comment on the City of Port Orchard’s proposed amendment to its Shoreline Master Program (SMP).

The City’s limited amendment proposes several changes to their existing shoreline program. These proposed amendments are intended to provide corrections and clarifications to existing provisions, update City and state code references, add more specific guidance for redevelopment, modify the non-conforming uses section, and remove some specific requirements from the public access section. These proposed amendments were locally adopted on October 11, 2016 as Ordinance Nos. 031-16 and 032-16.

Ecology will compare Port Orchard's proposed amendment to the requirements of the Shoreline Management Act and the Shoreline Master Program Guidelines. Based on the comparison, Ecology will decide whether to:

  • Approve the amendment as is or with recommended changes, or
  • Send the proposed amendment back to the city with required changes to meet statutory and rule requirements. Recommended changes may also be included with the required changes.
