White Salmon Shoreline Master Program: Comprehensive Update

Public comment is closed

We held a public comment period on the City of White Salmon’s proposed Shoreline Master Program (SMP) update. The period for public comment was from November 2, 2016 to December 2, 2016.

Mail and email were used to notify those who had expressed prior interest and news release was issued to encourage public participation and comment. We received multiple written comments mostly from the Yakama Nation. Comments focused on a variety of topics.

Response to public comment

We have prepared a summary of public comments and sent this to the city of White Salmon on January 12, 2017. The city responded to public comments on May 23, 2017.  Their responses have been incorporated into the Public Comment Summary.

Next Steps: Our decision

We will compare the White Salmon proposed SMP to the requirements of the Shoreline Management Act and the Shoreline Master Program Guidelines. Based on the comparison, we will decide whether to:

  • Approve the programs as is or with recommended changes, or
  • Send the proposed programs back to the City with required changes to meet statutory and rule requirements. Recommended changes may also be included with the required changes.
