Bellevue Shoreline Master Program: Comprehensive Update
Public Comment period is closed
The Washington Department of Ecology held a public comment period on the City of Bellevue’s proposed comprehensive update to their Shoreline Master Program (SMP). The period for public comment was from September 30 – October 31, 2016. An open house and public hearing were held at Bellevue City Hall on October 18, 2016. Eighteen citizens signed in at this event, and 10 of them gave testimony. Some encouraged Ecology to approve the SMP as is, as they felt enough time has been spent on developing it, while others felt the SMP needs to be more protective of Bellevue’s shorelines.
Ecology used mail and email to notify those who had expressed prior interest in the update of the SMP. Notice was published in The Seattle Times on September 29, 2016, to encourage public participation and comment. Ecology has received 29 verbal and written comments. Comments are focused on prioritizing ecological protections, private property rights, and impact to property values.
