Mukilteo Shoreline Master Program: Comprehensive Update

On December 22, 2011, Ecology approved the City of Mukilteo’s comprehensive Shoreline Master Program update as submitted. This is Mukilteo’s first comprehensive update since 1974.

The final changes to the shoreline program were locally adopted by ordinance at the December 12, 2011, City Council meeting. Ordinance 1295 modified a proposed program already submitted to Ecology. While Ecology was preparing their response to the submittal, Mukilteo adopted the ordinance to ensure the program complied with the requirements of the Shoreline Management Act and the Shoreline Master Program Guidelines.

This completes Mukilteo’s comprehensive update of their existing shoreline program, including the goals, policies, regulations, shoreline environment designations, and administrative procedures and definitions. Ecology’s approval puts the final stamp on a significant community effort that will increase protection and restoration of fish and wildlife habitat and water quality, provide more certainty for development, and improve public access and recreational opportunities along approximately 10 miles of coastal and lake shorelines.
