Describe Shoreline Management Issues
-
Identify shoreline management issues of concern
View Rule citation
The next step is to describe management issues that have or may in the
future affect these
shorelines. These are indications that ecosystem processes have or will be altered and shoreline functions are impaired.
Click HERE for list of questions to help you extract relevant information from
reports, models, monitoring studies and maps gathered in your inventory.
-
Determine relationships
Click HERE for a table that
provides an indication of ecosystem-wide
processes that may be related to the ecological impairment within your
jurisdiction. It also lists reports and studies that address these
particular shoreline issues and links to approaches for using map & images
as indicators of ecological function. Summarize the issues identified in existing reports that impact your
shorelines, and map the general location and causes when
known. Include both historical and recent activities that have impacted,
and particularly those that continue to influence the shoreline.
-
Identify measures to protect/restore
The next step is to use these maps and existing reports to document what things you
can and can’t affect with your SMP. This will help focus the scope of your
analysis.

for a table that illustrates some common management options to address the
issues.
