Horizontal beach profile change along the Columbia River littoral cell: summer 1997-winter 1998 and summer 1997-summer 1998. This figure shows horizontal beach profile change. The 2.0-m contour (relative to the land-based NAVD 88 datum) has been extracted from each profile and the figure reveals contour change between subsequent surveys. The horizontal change trend mirrors that of the vertical changes in that significant contour recession occurred during winter 1998 and many of the beaches recovered by summer 1998.
