WCC in SW Washington

Beginning December 1st and continuing through the week, severe rains hit western Washington, killing 6 and stranding over 75 people. Businesses and households in 6 Western Washington counties now qualify for disaster assistance. The Washington Conservation Corps has deployed 100 people for flood response to the hardest hit areas in Southwest Washington. These crews initially filled and stacked sandbags along cresting rivers for the first 48 hours to slow flooding. WCC Members were on a rotating schedule with a few crews working through the night. Now that the initial containment is complete, crews are involved with cleanup efforts and debris removal. Additionally, WCC Members are staffing emergency shelters for residents whose dwellings have suffered flood damage (currently estimated at 1,000 +).
