typically oil spills and substantial threats of oil spills.
Investigations can be performed to provide technical assistance to parties involved in a specific spill incident or to
an entire industry. They can also result in a broad identification of
changes needed to rules or law.
Ecology collects data from investigations to provide spill prevention technical assistance in the form of lessons learned and prevention
recommendations. This collected data is analyzed to determine both primary and immediate causes of
