Background Information 

Sometime between midnight and 6:00 a.m., Sunday, November 4th, the vessel "Columbia" sank.  This 55 foot, fishing vessel was moored at the Ballard Oil Dock in Salmon bay when it sunk.  The reason for the sinking is currently being investigated.

The "Columbia" had between 300 to 500 gallons of diesel fuel in its tanks when it sank.  While the amount of fuel which was released in currently unknown, product could be seen on the water surface.  Booms were used to help contain the spill, and adsorbent pads were used to remove diesel from the water.
