What People are Saying about Washington State’s voluntary tank vessel oil spill prevention programs“We are very appreciative of this special ECOPRO
recognition and of the work done by Ecology to raise environmental
protection standards for the whole industry. Crowley has operated in
Puget Sound since 1923, and it’s special to us because we live and work
there. We have always believed that high environmental standards benefit
our company.” “Our goal is one of operational excellence and enthusiastic achievement.
Incorporating the ECOPRO standards aligns very nicely with our vision
and provides excellent direction toward achieving our goals.” "The ECOPRO Award means that SeaRiver is achieving
best-of-industry performance and is working in harmony with Washington
state to achieve operational excellence goals." "Our crews have learned a lot from Washington’s ECOPRO
program and are using what they have learned in similarly sensitive
waters around the world. Implementing the ECOPRO standards and pursuing
excellence in our daily activities has made us a better organization
overall." "Washington’s regulations were
remarkably well thought out and, without a doubt, effectively reduced
the risk of a serious oil spill in the Pacific Northwest. INTERTANKO and
the oil companies should now voluntarily comply with these reasonable
requirements and demonstrate their commitment to prevention, which
everyone agrees is far cheaper than cleanup." "As a direct result of initiatives
by the Department of Ecology, we have chosen a direction of operational
excellence and we are continuing to work towards meeting the
requirements of the Exceptional Compliance Program." Operating under Washington’s initiatives for tank
vessels has helped our company, as a whole, to perform better and
operate our tank vessels more safely. "Our company remains on record with
our desire and intention to achieve Washington State’s rating for
Exceptional Compliance. Rest assured that our intent is to meet or
exceed all Washington State standards and we will continuously evaluate
all recommendations and opportunities that may contribute to the
protection of the environment."
