Youth Crews

Updated March 12, 2009:

The Department of Ecology in Yakima, which represents the Central Region, generally has eight crews. Revenues that support this program have decreased significantly with the downturn in the state’s economy. Since the governor and the legislature are required to create a balanced state budget, there is a high likelihood that funding will be significantly decreased. As a result, the Ecology Youth Corps in the Central Region anticipates hiring only 30 youth to staff 3 youth crews. (Originally we had hoped to hire closer to 70 youth for 7 crews) Applications received from youths in crew areas that are cancelled will be held for future employment opportunities.

The Central Region Office will be hiring youths between the ages of 14 and 17 to work on one of our Ecology Youth Corps (EYC) road crews in the summer of 2009. We have two summer sessions, those hired will be placed in either the 1st or 2nd session:

First Session: July 6 - July 28, 2009

Median Crews

The 2009 adult median crew (18 years of age and up) is also dependent on funding. The median crew is based out of Yakima and cleans Kittitas and Yakima Counties. Applications are accepted on an on-going basis. Once the crew is filled applications will be kept on file for future openings. At this time it has been determined there will be a Central Region Median Crew for the spring of 2009.
