Sound RefiningLocation & History Sound was started in 1967 as a crude oil refinery. In 2004 a local company purchased the assets of Sound Refining, Inc. located on the Hylebos waterway on the northwest edge of the Tacoma tide flats. The site is 25 acres in size with 5 acres not in industrial use. Sound Refining has not refined any crude oil since 1998. The refinery is currently used as a petroleum product tank farm. The volume of tankage within the facility is 29 million gallons or 690,000 barrels. Capacities: When in operation the refinery can produce 8,000 barrels per day. Major Products:
