Welcome to the Moderate Risk Waste (MRW)
Information Site.

What is Moderate Risk Waste?

Moderate Risk Waste is a class of solid waste that covers Household Hazardous Waste and Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generator Waste.   "Moderate Risk" does not mean that the material is moderately hazardous. Rather it is generated in small volumes and is therefore not regulated in the same way as larger volume hazardous waste from businesses. A more descriptive term for Moderate Risk Waste is "Small Volume Hazardous Wastes".

MRW Annual Reports

Ecology receives annual reports for all Moderate Risk Waste (MRW) programs in the state. This information includes the amounts of household hazardous waste (HHW), used oil, and conditionally exempt small quantity generator (CESGQG) waste collected by the programs, more specific details of the types of materials collected, amounts, participation rates and costs by county, and percent of the methods of management (disposition) of the waste.

The MRW reports are also included in the annual Solid Waste in Washington State Annual Status Reports. The status reports also include information on waste reduction and recycling programs, the annual recycling and diversion report, solid waste facility information, and disposal and remaining capacity statewide.
