Regulatory Information

Moderate Risk Waste is technically regulated as solid waste in Washington State. Each county or city has a Comprehensive Local Hazardous Waste Management Plan which governs how MRW is managed in that specific county. Similar to other solid waste issues, Ecology still provides oversight and technical assistance for MRW issues.

Because this class of solid waste is "hazardous" sometimes Moderate Risk Waste oversight responsibilities are shared between the Waste 2 Resources and Hazardous Waste and Toxics Reduction Programs.
