Thurston County Studies

Thurston County is part of the 2005 Extended Footprint Study.  Of the 51 sites where soil was sampled in Thurston County, 19 had elevated arsenic and 1 had elevated lead concentrations. Although most of the county has low levels, the top of the Nisqually Bluff has elevated levels of arsenic and lead. The Soil Safety Program will help childcares and schools in this area test their play area soils and take soil safety actions.

The Thurston County Health Department is also providing educational materials to the community and is advising using public health protection measures.
