Dupont Corporate Park Site
SITE DESCRIPTION
The DuPont Corporate Park is located at 2800 Center Drive N. and consists of
four parcels of land. The site was once used as storage for the DuPont
Works explosives plant and as a training area for Fort Lewis. The site was
also affected by emissions from the former Tacoma Asarco Smelter and by lead
paint from old buildings. As a result, some of the soil was polluted with
lead—a toxic metal.
Before 2006, the DuPont Corporate Park site was part of the neighboring Intel
property. In 1995, Weyerhaeuser cleaned up the site to meet state industrial
cleanup standards and sold it. However, because industrial cleanup
standards are not as stringent as unrestricted land use standards*, a
restrictive covenant was placed on the property deed.
The DuPont Corporate Park site has now been cleaned up to meet state cleanup
standards for unrestricted land use. Ecology proposes to remove DuPont
Corporate Park L.L.C. from the restrictive covenant that covers this site and
the Intel property. The restrictive covenant will remain on the Intel
property deed.
* Land cleaned up to the unrestricted land use standard may be used for
commercial and residential developments.
