Background: The old Nord Door wooden door plant at the Jeld-Wen property located on the Snohomish River waterfront will be investigated to identify soil, groundwater, and possible sediment contamination at the Site. Investigations to date have identified various petroleum products and other pollutants in soil and groundwater. Site contaminants may be a result of the former wood door plant and machine shop’s manufacturing and production processes, as well as from a previous owner’s pole treating yard.

Status:  Ecology and Jeld-Wen entered into an Agreed Order for Site cleanup on 1/2/08.  As part of the Agreed Order, Jeld-Wen will develop a Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Study (RI/FS) work plan to evaluate the nature and extent of Site contamination, an RI/FS Report, and a cleanup action plan.  The RI/FS work plan has been developed and Ecology approved it on 10/27/08.  RI field activities commenced in May 2009 with the collection of soil, groundwater, and sediment samples.
