SITE DESCRIPTION

The Manson Elementary Manson Elementary School (Site), Ecology Facility/Site ID # 66842524, is a former orchard that was subjected to historical pesticide applications.  In 2004, Ecology tested the soil at the Site and found lead and arsenic contamination exceeding state cleanup levels.  During the summer of 2006, data collected by Ecology showed a distinct boundary between the contaminated soil and the clean native soils. Approximately 2,000 cubic yards of soil was excavated from the site and disposed of at the Okanogan County Landfill; clean topsoil was imported to the site and new grass was established.  Based on the cleanup completed, Ecology has determined the site does not pose a threat to human health or the environment and proposes to issue a determination of No Further Action and remove the site from the Hazardous Sites List.
