Ecology proposes to remove site from its Hazardous Sites List The Department of Ecology is proposing to remove the Minitrie Tire Fire site from its Hazardous Sites List. The site, ranked a "1" on the list (1 is the highest level of concern relative to other sites), is located at 16111 Case Road SW in Rochester, Thurston County. Ecologys proposal is based on information received in an independent cleanup report prepared by Associated Environmental Group, LLC, consultant for the property owner. You are welcome and encouraged to comment on this proposal from February 10 through March 10, 2000, by contacting Ecologys Site Manager, Marcel Szyszkowski, at P.O. Box 47775, Olympia WA 98504-7775, (360) 407-6363, or e-mail mszy461@ecy.wa.gov. The sites soil was contaminated with polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and zinc as the result of a tire fire occurring in 1984. Last year, residual pieces of tire were removed, soil was excavated and taken to a landfill, and the area was hydroseeded. As a result, PAH and zinc levels are now at levels the state considers safe for human health. Documents describing the cleanup are available for viewing at the Tenino Timberland Library, 172 N. Central, and at the Lacey Timberland Library, 500 College Street.
