Most Western Laundry
SITE BACKGROUND
The Most Western Laundry site is about 15,000 square feet in size and located at
16th and B Streets in Hoquiam. Most Western Laundry and Dry Cleaners, Inc.
bought the site in 1964 and ran it as an industrial and commercial laundry and
dry cleaner. In 1978 they installed a dry cleaning unit that used
tetrachloroethylene (perc). The distiller units produced spent perc, which is a
listed federal and state regulated waste. Spills occurred to the ground,
migrating to the storm sewer and eventually the Hoquiam River

| 1984 |
Ecology first becomes involved with Most Western Laundry while
responding to a complaint about the facility. Ecology finds high levels
of perc in dry cleaning sludges in the ground and in unmarked
containers. |
| 1988 |
A contractor does soil sampling and installs water monitoring wells.
The report recommends further sampling and removal of polluted soils.. |
| 1991 |
Ecology completes a Site Hazard Assessment and gives the site a
ranking of 1. Ranking ranges from 1 to 5, with 1 representing the
highest relative risk. |
| 1994 |
Most Western Laundry is destroyed in a fire. |
| 2007 |
Ecology requests public comment on an Agreed Order for a proposed
Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study (February 7 to March 9). |
