North Marina Ameron/Hulbert Site

A PUGET SOUND INITIATIVE site – Reaching the goal of a healthy, sustainable Puget Sound

SITE BACKGROUND

Background: This Site is located along Everett’s waterfront adjacent to Port Gardner Bay and is part of the Port of Everett’s (Port) North Marina Redevelopment Project called Port Gardner Wharf.  Information about the redevelopment can be found at the following Port web site.  Metals, petroleum and other substances contaminate soil and groundwater at this Site. They likely came from historical lumber mill operations and other industries. The Port has done extensive investigation and partial cleanup, but more investigation and cleanup work is needed.  Cleanup of this Site will protect against contaminants entering the adjacent surface water and sediments, improve aquatic habitat by addressing potentially contaminated sediments, enhance shoreline access opportunities for the public, enhance the historical maritime character and functions of the North Marina, and enable the development of commercial and retail space associated with the new marina Craftsman District.

Status:   Ecology and the Potential Liable Persons (PLPs; Port of Everett, Ameron International, and the Hulberts) entered into an Agreed Order for Site cleanup on 6/3/09.  The Agreed Order requires the PLPs to develop an Interim Action Cleanup Report, a Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Study (RI/FS) work plan to evaluate the nature and extent of Site contamination, an RI/FS Report, and a draft cleanup action plan.

The public comment period for the Agreed Order will be from May 1 to May 30, 2009.
