North Marina West EndA PUGET SOUND INITIATIVE site – Reaching the goal of a healthy, sustainable Puget Sound now and forever Background: This Site is located along Everett’s waterfront
adjacent to Port Gardner Bay and is part of the Port of Everett’s (Port) North
Marina Redevelopment Project called Port Gardner Wharf. Information about
the redevelopment can be found at the following
Port web site.
The Port’s North Marina West End Site has been used for commercial, marine, and
general industrial purposes since the early 1900s. These uses included trucking
and marine construction activities such as welding, sandblasting, creosote log
storage, and painting. In addition, there were a number of storage tanks for
diesel fuel, gasoline, and oil. Chemicals such as polycyclic aromatic
hydrocarbons (PAHs), petroleum hydrocarbons, and five metals have been found to
exceed Model Toxic Control Act (MTCA) cleanup levels in soil. Vinyl chloride,
petroleum hydrocarbons, and two metals exceed MTCA cleanup levels in
groundwater. One PAH (acenaphthene) exceeds its respective Sediment Quality
Standard (SQS) in sediment. The Port has completed significant investigation and
partial cleanup of this Site as part of the larger North Marina Redevelopment
