A PUGET SOUND INITIATIVE location – Reaching the goal of a
healthy, sustainable Puget SoundPort Gardner and Lower Snohomish Estuary Sediments InvestigationPort Gardner and the Lower Snohomish Estuary is one of seven priority bays Ecology is working on throughout Puget Sound as part of the Puget Sound Initiative. Part of this work includes conducting bay wide sediment characterizations to inform cleanup and restoration decisions, identify potential areas of sediment contamination, and confirm the priority areas for cleanup in the Bay and Estuary. Past sediment sampling has shown that levels of several toxic chemicals exceed state cleanup standards. Ecology is using special funding from the Puget Sound Initiative to investigate sediment pollution and develop a strategy for cleaning up areas in the bay. Where can I review the results of this investigation? The report is now available. Please visit the information repository locations listed at the right for a copy of the report. Documents
