A PUGET SOUND INITIATIVE location – Reaching the goal of a healthy, sustainable Puget Sound

Port Gamble Baywide Sediments Investigation

Port Gamble is one of seven priority bays Ecology is working on throughout Puget Sound as part of the Puget Sound Initiative. Part of this work includes conducting bay wide sediment characterizations to inform cleanup and restoration decisions, identify potential areas of sediment contamination, and confirm the priority areas for cleanup in the Bay.

Past sediment sampling has shown that the sediments in Port Gamble Bay are impacted by the accumulation of wood waste and some toxic chemicals.  Ecology is using special funding from the Puget Sound Initiative to conduct a Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Study for the Log Storage Lease Area and to investigate sediments on a baywide scale to develop a strategy for cleaning up areas in the bay.

Where can I review the results of this investigation?
