SITE DESCRIPTION
Whitney’s Chevrolet, Inc. used to store and sell gasoline at 123 W. Pioneer Avenue. The site is polluted with volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and gasoline range petroleum hydrocarbons, but is now undergoing a cleanup process.
Timeline
| 1995 |
Three underground storage tanks are removed from the site. Soil
samples taken from the pit where the tanks sat show high levels of
benzene,
toluene,
ethylbenzene, and
xylene (BTEX). |
| 2003 |
Ecology investigates reports that waste solvents and waste oil are
being put into fuel storage tanks. These tanks are then decommissioned
(shut down and removedand cleaned. However, solvents are found in
nearby groundwater. |
| 2005 |
Ecology finds gasoline range petroleum hydrocarbons and VOCs in soil
and groundwater on site and nearby. |
| 2005 |
Site Hazard Assessment
is complete. |
| 2007 |
Agreed Order for a
Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Study
(RI/FS)
is signed. |
