Yakima Speedway

SITE DESCRIPTION

The Yakima Speedway Site is located at 1600 Pacific Avenue in Yakima, Washington.  The Site operates as an auto race track, as it has since the mid-1950s.  In 1993, Ecology received a complaint about uncovered drums stored at the Site, leaking used oil, and other petroleum products.  In 1995, the Yakima Health District conducted limited soil sampling; soil samples showed heavy oil above state cleanup standards.  The Site was placed on the Hazardous Sites List in 1996.  In 2001, additional soil sampling was conducted; all samples were below state cleanup levels.  This year, Ecology has determined that this site no longer poses a threat to public health and the environment and is now proposing to remove the site from the Hazardous Sites List.
