Maloney Creek Restoration Project

Map of Maloney Creek area

This project included land acquisition, and restoration of a portion of Maloney Creek near the town of Skykomish.  Maloney Creek is spawning and rearing habitat for Coho salmon and steelhead trout.  The creek had degraded habitat due to excessive buildup of sediment, which also caused localized flooding.  The restoration included constructing a sediment retention basin, and reworking the creek channel and banks to create and maintain desired habitat and sediment transport conditions.  The NRDA settlement funds paid for land acquisition, feasibility study, restoration planning and permitting, a portion of the restoration construction costs, and monitoring.
